Quitman Library Connections
Earning a GED certificate is easier to navigate when you have an instructor to guide you through the process. Free tutoring is available at the library every Wednesday from 4 to 6 p.m. It is taught by a degreed and professionally trained tutor who specializes in math and essay writing. Contact saradelarosa@outlook.com, call the library at 903-763-4191, or just stop by during class hours to participate.
On Feb. 28 at 10 a.m., the Wood County TX Genealogical Society will host a special volunteer workshop to assist family history researchers. They will meet in the Genealogy Research Reference Room. The society’s regular meetings are every 3rd Monday at 5:30 p.m. in the Shamburger Community Room.
The next meeting of the Friends of the Library will be Feb. 12 at noon. The Friends now meet quarterly in the community room on the 2nd Thursday of February, May, September, and December.
QPL Knitting & Crochet Class meets each Thursday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the library. Students of all ages and skill levels are invited to join this growing group. Classes are free.
Whyte Dove Writers Group meets every 2nd Monday at the library. You are welcome to join this group of regional authors, editors, and aspiring writers who meet to discuss, review and share techniques. This workshop is open to the public.
Wood County Metal Detector Club, led by Jerry Tinney, meets every 1st Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the library. The public is invited.
The Board Games for Teens group meets every other Friday from 1 to 4 p.m. in the community room. Bring board games and snacks to share. This group is organized by Homeschoolers – Wood County, Texas and is designed for teens aged 13 to 19. Call the library to confirm game days.
Notary service is available at the library during regular business hours. Walk-ins are welcome, but to guarantee an appointment, call the library’s front desk.
