The Quitman Police Department responded to 222 calls for service, issued 19 citations, gave 19 warnings, took 25 reports, gave four criminal trespass warnings and made the following arrests.

On Thursday Feb. 17 Sgt. Clint Perkins responded to a call of a shoplifter at the Brookshire’s Grocery Store in the 500 block of E. Goode St. The management advised a white male later identified as Angus Arrington had taken several items and left the store. Perkins contacted Arrington and scheduled an interview where he admitted to stealing multiple items. A theft of property under $100 citation was issued and a criminal trespass warning was also issued.

On Monday Feb. 28, Chief John Farmer responded to a call of a shoplifter at the Brookshire’s Grocery Store. While issuing criminal trespass warnings to Lakesha Thompson and Jason Busby, a warrant was discovered on Busby. He was taken into custody for a Hunt County warrant for theft of property over $750 but under $2,500 and transported to Wood County Jail.

On Friday, March 4, Farmer responded to a suicidal subject on Tina St. where Wood County sheriff’s deputies assisted with a white male who was taken into protective custody and transported to UT Health Quitman Hospital for evaluation.

On Sunday, March 6 Officer Kevin Atkinson was on a traffic stop in the 100 block of Horton St. for expired registration. Atkinson found that the driver, Steven Mabry, did not have liability Insurance and was operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license. Atkinson arrested Mabry for driving while license invalid with previous conviction/suspension without financial responsibility. Mabry was transported to Wood County Jail.

On Wednesday March 7, Sgt. Perkins observed Mardy Hughey with a warrant out of Upshur County for burglary of a building. Perkins made a traffic stop in the 100 block of N. Winnsboro St. and Hughey was taken into custody.
