The Quitman Police Dept. answered 280 calls for service between June 1-30, issued 135 traffic citations, gave 265 traffic warnings, took 15 reports, issued two criminal trespass warnings and made three on-site arrests and three warrant arrests.

June 18

Patrol Sgt. John Cooper was contacted by UT Health staff at the emergency room and advised that an unattended patient walked out who was under an emergency detention warrant issued by Wood County Sheriff’s Office. While en route, he was notified that the woman, later identified as Ruby Diane Alston, had stolen a Christus EMS ambulance. Cooper spotted the ambulance, driven by Alston, in the 100 block of E. Goode St. He blocked the vehicle with his patrol vehicle. Alson exited the vehicle, approached the officer and said, “I stole an ambulance.” After getting cleared by the hospital, Alston was booked into the Wood County Jail for theft over $30,000. 

June 19

Officer Javier Amador initiated a traffic stop in the 200 block of E. Good. Driver Marlon Eric Schrader was found to have two outstanding warrants for possession of weapons and a parole violation and was arrested.

June 27

Chief John Farmer and Lt. Travis Spurgeon attempted to stop a white 2018 Lexus, reported stolen out of Longview earlier that day. Farmer got behind the vehicle westbound on E. Goode St. and Spurgeon was traveling eastbound on E. Goode and pulled up to box in the vehicle near the intersection of N. Main and E. Goode. The driver, later identified as Dalton Lawrence, made an evasive move and sped off turning northbound on N. Main. Farmer advised dispatch that the driver was running as he pursued the vehicle, but Lawrence wrecked while turning right on E. Lane. Lawrence was taken into custody and charged with unauthorized use of and motor vehicle and evading arrest or detention with a motor vehicle, both state jail felonies.

Officer Joseph Gatewood initiated a traffic stop in the 100 block of N. Winnsboro St. The driver Thomas Johnson was found to have an outstanding warrant for probation violation and was arrested.
