How is your life online shaping the relationships you have offline? That is the question Texas high school students were asked to explore through Healthy Futures of Texas’ 11th annual Student Film Contest, held in Dallas.
Healthy Futures of Texas, a statewide nonprofit focused on sexual and reproductive health, hosts the annual film contest to give high school students the space to share their perspectives on healthy relationships, sex education, birth control, teen pregnancy and more – while raising awareness about the issues that shape their lives and communities.
The following students and films were recognized in this year’s statewide contest for their creativity, technical quality, clarity of message and how effectively they addressed the theme.
1st Place: $1,000
“Behind the Screen” by Delilah Gomez
Richardson High School
2nd Place: $750
“In Passing” by Wesley Irwin
Quitman High School
3rd Place: $500
“Nudge” by Vrinda Polimetla
Legacy Ranch High School, Liberty Hill
Emerging Storyteller Award: $150
Michael Stevens, Garland High School
Creative Spark Award: $150
Johan Arias, New Tech High School at B.F. Darrell, Dallas
“When students are given an artistic platform to speak, they tell the truth about their lives, their health and what they need to know,” said Ginger Mullaney, CEO of Healthy Futures of Texas. “This year’s participants, and especially our winners, demonstrated remarkable candor and courage in exploring how technology affects their personal relationships.”
