The Wood County Master Gardener Association, a Texas A&M AgriLife Extension program, will host a free Rain Barrel Workshop on Saturday, Oct. 3, from 10 a.m. to noon at the pavilion at the Mineola Nature Preserve, 1860 County Road 2724, Mineola.
President of the Association, Valerie Wilcox, invites the community to learn how to utilize rainwater for all their gardening needs.
The workshop is open to everyone and will provide an introduction to rainwater harvesting, including its environmental benefits and simple ways homeowners can conserve water. Participants will learn about the science of rainwater collection, how to build a rain barrel, and the different rain barrel options and placement techniques that can help optimize rainwater collection.
Certified Texas Master Gardeners will lead the fun and interactive workshop and answer questions about rainwater harvesting and water conservation.
Rain barrels will be available for purchase at the workshop for $40 each. Payment is cash only.
For those interested in learning practical ways to conserve water and make use of rainwater, the workshop offers an opportunity to gain hands-on knowledge from local Texas Master Gardeners.
