Ramp builders ramping up efforts to mark 40th year
This year marks the 40th anniversary of Texas Ramp Project.
The Broad Street Church of Christ team from Mineola has been constructing ramps for more than 10 years and recently completed its 278th ramp in Wood and Rains counties.
They provide the manpower, and the Texas Ramp Project provides the materials, normally valued around $1,000.
The project began in Dallas and is now statewide. It expects to build about 2,900 ramps this year and has built more than 30,000 ramps, which would stretch 160 miles laid end-to-end.
The most recent project was 40-foot wheelchair ramp for resident in Point on Tuesday, Oct. 14.
