Road Warriors: Bulldogs bounce back, eye playoff run

The Quitman Bulldogs experienced a sense of déjà vu last week in their two-game series against Edgewood – falling 17-2 at home on Tuesday before bouncing back with a 5-3 road victory on Friday for the second straight week.

In Tuesday’s matchup in Quitman, the Bulldogs struggled to contain Edgewood’s early offensive surge and ultimately fell 17-2. Edgewood jumped ahead in the first inning and never looked back, capitalizing on key opportunities and patient at-bats.

Despite the lopsided score, Quitman saw some bright spots at the plate. Jonas Prather and Juan Ramirez each recorded two hits, while Davis Watson drove in a run. Cannin Peppers, Mason Williams and Ben Boiclair were also productive at the plate, each securing a hit. Peppers started on the mound for the Bulldogs, working through a challenging outing against a lineup that consistently found ways to reach base.

However, as has become a pattern, the Bulldogs regrouped and delivered a much stronger performance when the series shifted to Edgewood on Friday.

Quitman secured a 5-3 victory behind an impressive all-around effort, highlighted by a dominant performance from Logan Davis. The Bulldogs wasted no time getting on the board, as Davis came through with a two-run single in the first inning to set the tone. He added to that momentum in the third inning with a double, finishing the day 3-for-4 with three RBI to lead the offense. Canin Peppers, Davis Watson and Ben Boisclair also earned hits for the Bulldogs, with Watson earning two RBIs.

Davis also took control on the mound, earning the win with six and two-thirds innings of solid work. He allowed only four hits and three runs while striking out six. Davis Watson came in to close things out in relief and help secure the win.

The victory showcased Quitman’s resilience and ability to respond after adversity, a trend that has repeated itself in back-to-back weeks – falling short at home but rising to the occasion on the road.

With the regular season winding down, the Bulldogs turn their focus toward the playoffs, carrying momentum from a strong road performance and looking to build consistency as the stakes rise.

The Bulldogs have a warmup game Thursday at 7 p.m. In Mt. Vernon against Harmony.
