Shelbi Steen hosts complimentary volleyball clinic at Quitman High School
A complimentary volleyball clinic was held Friday at 2 p.m. at Quitman High School, led by former collegiate athlete Shelbi Steen.
Steen, who played two years of volleyball at Tyler Junior College before completing her collegiate career at Oral Roberts University, led the session for incoming seventh- through 12th-grade students. About 18 athletes from junior high and high school participated.
Although she now works as an accountant, Steen continues to stay connected to the sport by hosting volleyball clinics on the side and sharing her experience and skills with younger players.
The clinic also carried personal meaning. Steen’s mother, Julie Steen, serves as an assistant volleyball coach at Quitman High School. As a Mother’s Day gesture, Shelbi Steen gifted her mother a pink T-shirt reading, “Jesus loves you,” and announced she would host the free clinic in her honor.
