Slow-pitch benefit tournament for local burn victim set for Aug. 1
An adult co-ed slow-pitch softball benefit tournament will be held Saturday, Aug. 1, at Lions Park and Walker Park in Winnsboro, to raise money for local burn victim Kerri Cowser.
Cowser suffered burns over much of her body in a boating accident on Caddo Lake. She was airlifted from Good Shepherd Medical Center in Marshall to the burn center at Parkland Hospital in Dallas. Funds raised through the tournament will help cover her medical expenses.
In addition to the tournament, there will be an online auction and raffles featuring quilts, sets of tires and other items.
Organizer Jordan Stiewert, Cowser’s daughter, said 11 of the tournament’s 12 team slots have been filled. Donations of items for the auction and raffle will be accepted through July 31.
Concessions ad other supplies will be available for purchase at both parks.
The family is asking for prayers for the healing and recovery of Cowser and her friend Dawn Strawn, who was also injured in the accident.
For more information or to donate, call Stiewert at 903-975-4571.
