Proud Blue Band earns first sweepstakes in 30 years
The Quitman Proud Blue Band secured its first sweepstakes distinction in 30 years March 29 in Gilmer at the UIL concert and sight-reading competition.
The Mineola High School Sound of the Swarm band won its ninth consecutive sweepstakes award with its performance last week at the UIL concert and sight-reading competitions.
To earn Sweepstakes, a band must receive the highest possible first division rating at marching competition in the fall and a first division rating at the UIL concert competition and the UIL sight reading competition.
The last time a Quitman band accomplished this honor was during the 1991-92 school year.
