Soup and Sermons series returning

Posted

After COVID-19 forced the Mineola Ministerial Alliance to cancel last year’s annual Soup and Sermon series during Holy Week, the event is making a comeback.

Funds raised by the daily luncheon are the major financial boost for the alliance’s benevolence activities during the year.

Events will be held Monday through Friday, March 29-April 2, at the First United Methodist Church Ministry Center, 612 N. Newsom in Mineola.

The meal begins at 11:45 a.m., and the sermons start at noon.

Order for preaching for the week includes the following:

Monday, March 29, First United Methodist Church, Jay Horton

Tuesday, March 30, First Baptist Church, Phillip Casper

Wednesday, March 31, First Christian Church, David Ellis

Thursday, April 1, St. Paul’s Missionary Baptist Church, Demethruis Boyd

Friday, April 2, New Life Church of Mineola, Larry Yates

Funds are used to assist needy individuals with food, gas and sometimes a place to stay.

The alliance also helps the Bread of Life food ministry and other such organizations.

The alliance also awards an annual scholarship for a graduating senior and in non-COVID years usually recognizes an outstanding senior at the chamber of commerce banquet.
