Three street closure requests were granted by the Mineola City Council last Monday.

The chamber of commerce extended its request for the Iron Horse Heritage Festival Sept. 22-23 to include an additional section of W. Commerce past Line St.

The annual Iron Horse Car Show on Saturday, Oct. 28 was granted a request to close S. Johnson between Broad and Commerce and W. Commerce from Johnson west to the Broadstreet Bank entrance.

The Autumn Trails Model A Ford Club requested that the parking on the east side of Johnson between Broad and Kilpatrick be reserved for the club’s event on Oct. 14 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Select Theater.

The council accepted a $5,000 donation from Republic Services for the Mineola Nature Preserve. Gene Kennon said the company has contributed $35,000 to $40,000 to the preserve over the years.

The council proposed a property tax rate of $.5255 to be considered on Sept. 18 at 5:30 p.m.

The council reappointed Kyle Waggoner as municipal judge and nominated Sam Curry for the Wood County Appraisal District board.

Jerry Gaskill Jr. was appointed to the Main Street Advisory board.

The council added its approval to two special use permit requests that had previously been OK’d by the planning and zoning commission, a manufactured home at Padgett and South Streets and a tire shop at 414 S. Pacific.
