Texas election officials report backlog in DPS voter registrations

Posted

County voter registrars across Texas received a large number of voter registration applications and updates this week that had been backlogged through the Texas Department of Public Safety’s online system, according to the Texas Association of County Election Officials.
TACEO said some of the records date to October 2025 and had not been transmitted to county voter registrars until this week. Counties received anywhere from several hundred to tens of thousands of records, depending on their size.
The association attributed the backlog to a technological error at the state level.
TACEO said county election officials are processing the records and that valid registrations submitted before the deadline will be handled appropriately despite the backlog.
The association encouraged voters to check their registration status at VoteTexas.gov or contact their county voter registrar. Wood County voters may contact the county voter registrar at 903-763-2400.
The voter registration deadline was Oct. 5.
TACEO is a nonpartisan association representing county election officials across Texas’ 254 counties.
