Tragedies hit Alba-Golden
Two tragedies involving youth have struck the Alba-Golden community recently.
On Aug. 31, an Alba-Golden elementary student was seriously injured in an accident at her home.
She was flown to Children’s Medical Center in Dallas.
The community has rallied to support the family with prayer vigils, fundraisers, and a day when all wore Zoey’s favorite color, pink, including area school districts.
Then on Saturday, Sept. 10, the Wood County Sheriff’s Dept. reported a shooting at a residence on FM 779 in the Alba-Golden area.
A 12-year-old boy died as the result of a gunshot wound to the head.
The department has interviewed the shooter, and preliminary indications are that the shooting was accidental.
AGISD reported that the child was not a student of the school district.
