Mineola ISD hires Moore as head coach/athletic director

An exhaustive search for a new head football coach and athletic director for Mineola High School concluded Monday with a unanimous vote to hire Cody Moore.

The offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Rockwall Heath begins his duties officially on March 16, succeeding Luke Blackwell, who was recently reassigned as dean of students at Mineola Primary School.

“We are excited to be here and excited to be a part of the community,” said Moore, accompanied by his wife, Stefani, and children Braxton, an eighth grader, and Finley, a fourth grader.

Stefani will also be joining the district as a high school English teacher.

Superintendent Cody Mize said the district received 50 applications for the AD position, and all of the six finalists were outstanding.

“We’re super proud to have (Moore),” Mize said in wholeheartedly recommending him.

Board President Rodney Watkins called it a momentous occasion for Mineola ISD.

Moore hails from Elkhart and earned bachelor’s and masters degrees from East Texas A&M in Commerce, where he played on the golf team.

He also coached the Dallas Baptist University women’s golf team last fall.

He began his coaching career at Royce City, serving three years as offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach from 2004-07.

He spent the next four years at Mesquite Horn and another two at Rockwall in the same position.

Then he joined Denton ISD in 2015 and was on board with the opening of Braswell High School, serving as head coach and campus AD for eight seasons.

He has been at Rockwall Heath since 2023.

He has also been a physical education teacher at all but Braswell.
