Little Jackets return to school at Mineola Primary

Mineola Primary School welcomed students and their families back to campus Monday evening for Meet the Teacher as the Little Jackets prepared to begin another school year.
The event was held from 5:30-7 p.m. Monday, Aug. 17. New and returning students and their families were invited to tour the campus, meet their teachers and drop off school supplies ahead of the first day of school.
Kona Ice was also on hand to help families cool off from the summer heat.
Principal Jole Ray, who is beginning her 11th year as principal, said the school was excited to welcome back the Little Jackets.
“We are looking forward to welcoming 650 students for the first day of the 2026-2027 school year. Our Little Jackets are looking forward to making lots of new memories, and for some, their first year of school,” Ray said.
Meet the Teacher events were also held Monday evening at Mineola ISD’s intermediate, middle and high school campuses.
Mineola Primary School opened its new campus in August 2024. The campus serves students from pre-K and Head Start through third grade.
Registration for returning students began July 22, and Mineola Primary staff returned to campus July 27. Students returned Aug. 19 for the first day of school.
Doors open at 7:15 a.m., with classes beginning at 7:45 a.m. Students are dismissed at 3:25 p.m.
During the first few days of school, parents were invited to park and walk their children into the building to help ease the transition back into the school routine.
The school asked parents and families for patience and understanding as students, teachers and staff settled into the new year.
Students arriving by car are required to use the car line. Teachers are stationed on the school porch to help students unload and find their way to their classrooms.
For the 2026-2027 school year, students can also receive breakfast and lunch at no cost through the National School Lunch and School Breakfast Programs, regardless of household income.
