Volleyball playoffs

The state volleyball playoffs get underway this week.

Mineola travels to Hallsville to take on Atlanta Monday at 6 p.m.

Quitman and Redwater will tangle Monday at 7 in Pittsburg.

Alba-Golden faces Simms Bowie at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Mt. Pleasant.

Yantis and Avery square off at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at Rivercrest.

Quitman advanced with a five-set win while Mineola fell in four sets.

Alba-Golden defeated Simms Bowie in five sets.

Yantis fell to Avery in three.

Next up, Alba-Golden takes on Beckville Saturday, Nov. 6 at 3 p.m. at Longview High School.

Quitman faces White Oak Saturday at 1:30 at Hawkins High School.

Special Olympics returns in style

After a five-year absence, over 150 athletes from Como-Pickton, Cedar Creek and Upshur and Wood Counties competed for special recognition at a state-sanctioned Special Olympics track and field meet at the Quitman High School track field on Friday, April 5.

Symphonic band presents Christmas concert

Come on over to Mineola’s beautiful Historic Select Theater and hear the Lake Country Symphonic Band’s Christmasy “Everything Christmas” concert.

Concerts are Sunday, Dec. 17, at 2 p.m. and Tuesday evening, Dec. 19, at 7:30 p.m. Mike Holbrook is back in the director’s seat, so it’s sure to be a fun-filled couple of hours.
