William Edward Sims, Sr. 1933-2022

William Edward Sims, Sr., 88 of Quitman passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2022 peacefully at his home. He was born on Oct. 13, 1933 in Oak Grove to the late Emory Sims and Bertie Martin Sims.

Mr. Sims was a retired accountant for Atlantic Richfield and a longtime member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. He enjoyed farming, loved spending time with his grandkids and was the president of the Ebenezer Cemetery Association.

He was preceded in death by his brothers, James Dykes, Gerald Sims and Thomas Sims; and sisters, Marnell Mangold and Margie Hasten. Survivors include his loving wife, Louise Sims of Quitman; son, William Sims, Jr. and his wife, Andrea of Quitman; daughter, Katrina Burton and her husband, Tom of Quitman; sister, Jessie Starrett of Carrolton; grandchildren, Davey Williams, Allen Williams, Dawson Sims and Bethany Sims; and great-grandchildren, Kameron, Kinley, Peyton and Reagan.

Visitation was held on Friday, July 1, 2022 from 10 to 11 a.m. at Beaty Funeral Home in Winnsboro. Service followed at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Rev. John Skelton and Rev. Fred Morrow conducting. Interment was at Ebenezer Cemetery in Quitman, with Davey Williams, Allen Williams, Dawson Sims, Joe Blair, Tom Blair, Tommy Sims and Chris Sims serving as pallbearers.
