Winnsboro earns top spot in THSBA season opener

The Winnsboro fishing team took top honors at the Texas High School Bass Association Northeast Division season opener Sept. 26 on Lake O’ the Pines.
Winnsboro edged 903 Anglers to earn the first-place team trophy. The Northeast Division tournament drew 144 boats representing 28 programs.
Trenver Ford, fishing solo, was the top angler for Winnsboro, placing fifth overall with a five-fish limit weighing 15.10 pounds.
Michael Taylor and Hunter Potter weighed in five fish totaling 13.09 pounds to place 13th overall.
Other strong performances for Winnsboro came from Tavin Howell and Jayden Alexander with five fish weighing 9.79 pounds; Ethan Green and Shelby Burnett with five weighing 9.69 pounds; and Wyatt Qualls and Leeton Stracener with five weighing 7.78 pounds.
Winnsboro has 16 boats competing during the 2026-27 season.
Other top anglers representing Wood County programs included Quitman’s Macie King and Jackson Sydnor, who placed fourth overall, and Alba-Golden’s Noah Richardson and Luke Goforth, who finished 20th.
The Northeast Division returns to competition Oct. 24 on Lake Tawakoni.
