Attempting to come back from an 18-1 loss against the Winnsboro Red Raiders on March 26, the Quitman Bulldogs came up short against Winnsboro, losing 4-2 at home last Thursday. Despite Tommy Drinkwine’s strong showing on the mound, striking out 10 batters and allowing only two hits in his five innings pitched, the Bulldogs were unable to pull off a victory.
Davis Watson started things off for the Bulldogs in the bottom of the first inning with a single to center field. Johnny Mullican singled to center. Payton Sapp scored Watson when he hit a sacrifice fly to center to put the Bulldogs on the board 1-0.
The Red Raiders finally got on the board in the third inning when Colsen Hammons scored on a fielder’s choice, evening the score at 1-1.
Quitman scored again in the fourth inning when Jaxon Wilson hit a single to right field scoring Canin Peppers.
Quitman held their 2-1 lead all the way until the top of the seventh inning. The Raiders scored three runs in the top of the seventh inning on doubles by Nolee Carroll and Will Wilcox and the Red Raiders won 4-2. The Bulldogs collected six hits with Sapp and Wilson batting runs in.
