Wood County Commissioners Court approves routine items

Posted

In a less than 20-minute meeting March 3, the Wood County Commissioners Court approved nearly 20 agenda items, most of them routine.

Among those items approved included the consent agenda, several American Rescue Plan of 2021 (ARPA) policy updates, a security equipment lease renewal, and a 60-month Pitney Bowes contract for postal supplies in the Wood County Tax Office.

The court approved a tax exemption for the Lake Country Playhouse in Mineola, which qualifies as a Texas Historic Landmark. The exemption item was listed as “routine and non-controversial” under the consent agenda.

The court also approved a highest-bid offer for a struck-off property in Mineola. The lot was purchased by Jerry Gaskill, son of current Wood County Commissioner Jerry Gaskill. The court noted that Gaskill (the son) had no advantage in the purchase, as anyone in the public was welcome to bid on the lot through the city’s participation in the Texas Communities Group, LLC program. Commissioner Gaskill abstained in the approval of the bid offer. The City of Mineola and Mineola ISD have already approved the offer.
