Wood County genealogy society hosts UT-Tyler history professor
Wood County Genealogy Society will meet Monday, Nov. 20 at 5 p.m. at the Quitman Public Library, 202 E. Goode St.
Dr. James Newsom will be back, and his topic will “The Beginnings of Spanish American War.” As a history professor at the University of Texas, his knowledge is extensive, and he is very entertaining. He brings history to life.
Newsom is a senior lecturer in history and political science at the University of Texas at Tyler and the recipient of the fellow of the University of Texas at Tyler Academy of Distinguished Teachers. He has a B.A., M.A. (history) and M.A. (political science) from the University of Texas at Tyler and a Ph.D. from Texas Christian University.
Newsom is a frequent speaker at local heritage and civic groups, including The Mayflower Society, Huguenot Society, The Sons of the American Revolution, The Daughters of the American Revolution and the War of 1812 Society.
