Wood County Sheriff’s Report

August 28

Sgt. Morrison, Cpl. Croney, welfare check, Private Road 8692; caller’s neighbor outside yelling, unsure if he was OK, subject advised he had huffed aerosol substance, making him act with odd behavior.

Sgt. Williams, Cpl. Rich, missing juvenile; while en route, notified juveniles had been located, CPS contacted, children removed from residence. 

August 29

Deputy Comeaux, suspicious circumstance, CR 1975; 911 call from male who hung up immediately, when dispatch returned call, asked if he needed emergency services, advised he did and hung up. Deputies searched area where phone pinged, located after extensive search, man advised people were attempting to look into his windows. 

Deputy Haley, overturned boat, Lake Fork; caller saw overturned kayak, no one around it. Deputy searched area, did not observe kayak, contacted boaters in the area, stated they never saw kayak in the water.

Sgt. Williams, Cpl. Rich, Deputy Holland, disturbance; female advised she confronted husband about affair, when she grabbed him, he grabbed her, both parties had visible injuries, did not wish to pursue charges, separated for the night. 

August 30

Sgt. Cox, theft; victim’s dad recently passed away, someone took his truck, did not have vehicle identification information, will work to obtain it.

Cpl. Rapp, Deputy Smith, aggravated assault, Hwy. 154; victim was going to discipline her son when he struck and bit her, went outside, struck sister with shovel, transported to Sheriff’s Office, Juvenile Probation responded. 

August 31

Deputy Skinner, subject burning trash, Lake Holbrook; couple burning trash beside campsite, one came back with active warrant. Keith Stephens arrested for active warrant.

Lt. Kovic, Deputy Smith, disturbance, CR 1540; caller’s son intoxicated, being violent; suspect fled into woods, deputies determined family violence offense occurred. Justin Pritchett arrested for terroristic threat of family/household member.

Sgt. Cox, Cpl. Rapp, suspicious circumstance, CR 1900; tarp stretched across roadway, subject advised he was trying to fix bridge, advised to remove items from roadway, he did. 

September 1

Cpl. Rapp, runaway juvenile; mother advised daughter last seen with male, cannot make contact with daughter, entered as runaway. 

Deputy Way, theft by phone; caller’s ex-boyfriend took phone without permission, did not wish to pursue charges. Deputy contacted suspect who advised he would return phone once he returned to area.

Deputy Smith, agency assist; Winnsboro PD involved in vehicle pursuit with subject who had active warrant, deputies stopped vehicle, driver was placed in custody for active warrant, passenger also arrested.

September 2

Sgt. Morrison, Deputy Pollard, suspicious person, FM 515; female yelling at vehicles, making threatening statements, subject not making sense, acting belligerent. Stacy Cross arrested for public intoxication. 

Deputy Pollard, theft, Yantis; someone stole pair of boots from business, deputy learned boots were same ones on suspect of previous call where female was arrested, victim did not wish to pursue charges, requested criminal trespass against subject.

Sgt. Morrison, Cpl. Croney, disturbance, FM 14; runaway daughter came home, disturbance ensued, runaway got into argument with brother who pushed her into a door. Matthew Williams arrested for assault family violence.

Cpl. Rich, suspicious person, Hwy. 37; male lying in roadway, Jacob Janow found to be intoxicated, arrested for public intoxication.

September 3

Sgt. Morrison, Deputy Pollard, welfare check; deputies spoke with both parties who advised they were in verbal dispute. No offense occurred, parties separated.

Sgt. Morrison, Cpl. Croney, structure fire, CR 2168; deputies observed several campers fully engulfed, resident advised no one was inside, fire marshal contacted.
