Wood County Yesteryear
Wood County news from nearly 100 years ago, as seen in the November 5, 1925 edition of the Winnsboro News
Although little to nothing is now known of this Wood County individual, time has left its stamp via the poetic, verbose obituary written a hundred years ago by this man’s friend:
“Earl Angle Is Dead: His passing was as (quiet) as his living. We are glad, as one of the small circle who knew him best, to be permitted to speak of him, who was our friend.
His weaknesses were few, his virtues many. As we knew him there was something majestic in his nature. Love and kindness was the mountain peak. Possible native kindness oft times impelled the action of his nobler will, yet, is there less reward in silent heroism, than the deeds chronicled by a (fanfare) of trumpets? ‘Write me as one who loved his fellow man.’ This was the jewel in his life. Love ruled and marked his pathway. In the paradise of human hearts, there was none filled with kindness greater than his. His life seemed short but his work was done and he went home to rest: rest where there are brighter heavens, richer flowers and sweeter songs. – A friend.”
