Quitman ISD Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs have opened pathways for students to be prepared for college and earn relevant certifications.

The district offers career and technology classes and certifications in Health Science, AFNR (Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources), Construction Science, Food & Consumer Science, Business & Industry and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math).

QISD belongs to the Piney East Perkins Consortium, which is group of 20 school districts in the East Texas area. This group includes nearby schools, such as Alba-Golden, Hawkins, Harmony and New Diana. more
Through challenging programs and rigorous training, Quitman High School engineering students are preparing for college, tackling hands-on projects and earning career certifications.

The Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) class is one of many outlets available to QHS students involved in Career and Technical Education (CTE).

Yantis High School’s valedictorian and salutatorian have been named for this year. Ashten Burnett is the valedictorian and Maggie Hooker is the salutatorian.

Yantis graduation will be Saturday at 6 p.m. at the Yantis High School gym.

Burnett has participated in basketball, volleyball, track, cheer, tennis, golf and softball. She has served as basketball captain, volleyball captain and cheer captain. She is senior class vice president.

Burnett is a member of the National Society of High School Scholars (NSHSS), Beta Club, Phi Theta Kappa, FFA, UIL Academics, Superintendent Student Advisory Member and FCCLA.

After graduation, she will attend Tyler Junior College for a bachelor’s degree in dental hygiene. She is the daughter of Michael and Amber Burnett. more
