Caring & Sharing marks 40th year of assisting
In October 1983, 20 concerned citizens met for the organizational meeting of a program they christened “Caring & Sharing: Mineolans for Mineola.” The plan was to coordinate efforts of all the programs already at work in the community. The monetary goal was $9,200 or roughly $30 to feed and clothe a child for Christmas.

Free books coming to area children
What had began as a gesture to motivate the students of a rural high school in small-town Tennessee has become one of the most prolific and beneficial educational endeavors ever undertaken. Currently 138 youngsters from Alba-Golden, Quitman and Yantis have joined 2.5 million children in receiving books free-of-charge from Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library.

Historical documents from cornerstone reveal glimpse of Mineola life in 1936
The surprisingly-well preserved contents of a sealed copper box was unveiled Saturday morning at the Mineola’s Historical Museum.
The box was placed in the cornerstone of the building when it was built in 1936 as a brand new U.S. Post Office. more
