The surprisingly-well preserved contents of a sealed copper box was unveiled Saturday morning at the Mineola’s Historical Museum.

The box was placed in the cornerstone of the building when it was built in 1936 as a brand new U.S. Post Office. more

Reunion will go on despite pavilion

Yes, there will be a Wood County Old Settlers Reunion at Jim Hogg City Park in Quitman Aug. 3, 4 and 5.

There will be a 122nd Old Settlers Reunion despite an unfinished pavilion at the park. It had been hoped the rebuilding of the pavilion would be complete in time for the reunion, but some of the materials have been back-logged.  more

Jury finds Constable Smith not guilty

Wood County Precinct Two Constable Kelly Smith was found not guilty by a federal jury Friday in Tyler.

He had been indicted last November on two counts stemming from a felony arrest warrant law officers served on Robert Evans in Hawkins in July 2022.

Smith had pleaded not guilty to deprivation of rights under color of law and falsification of a document. more
