Lady Bulldogs lose narrowly in tournament consolation game

The Quitman Lady Bulldogs emerged from the Hawkins Holiday Hoops Tourney with a mixed bag of results. A disappointing loss on opening day to Cumberland Academy was redeemed in part by a second day win against Trinity and placed the Lady Bulldogs in the consolation game of the eight-team tournament.  Quitman fell to the Tyler Heat 29-28 in the consolation game. more

Academic all-state honors awarded

The Texas High School Coaches Association (THSCA) has recognized Quitman’s Ben Burroughs, River Chaney, Riley Flanagan and Jace Reid as academic all-state student-athletes. Mineola awardees are Zane Bedford, Wylie Franks, Brady Gully and Dalton Rogers. more

Quitman faces stern test in Lipan tourney

The Quitman Bulldogs went west to Lipan to take on some of the top basketball schools in the state. In their four games, three opponents were state-ranked. Quitman took on fellow Class 3A team Millsap before tangling with Class A defending state champion and current number one team in the state Slidell, followed by playing 13th ranked Lipan and 21st ranked Saltillo. more

Bulldogs have little trouble in victory over Cumby

The Quitman Bulldogs steamrolled past Cumby ripping the Trojans 88-26 last Tuesday at Ballard Gym. The Bulldogs raced to 28-7 first quarter lead and never looked back. more

All-district 19-3A football honors announced

The Alba-Golden Panthers have six players named to the District 19-3A D2 all district football first team. They are offensive lineman Jacob Dailey, fullback Austin Hartley and running back Jon Chadwick. On the defensive first team are defensive lineman Tim Mitchell and safety Jon Chadwick. more

Quitman hosting two neighbors in tournament

Three Wood County boys basketball programs will be on display beginning Thursday through Saturday at the Quitman Basketball Tournament at Ballard Memorial Gym and the high school gym. more
